The directors of the CSC are a dedicated group of volunteers from government, academia, corporations, and self-employed forest professionals that provide organizational direction for achievement of the committee’s core purpose.

Scope
The Coastal Silviculture Committee (CSC) is managed by a board of directors that are nominated by the membership. The Board of Director’s focus is on achieving the committee’s core purpose as outlined below.
Purpose
The core purpose of the CSC is to:
- Accommodate the sharing of current forest management and technical silvicultural information to all forest practitioners and the public in coastal British Columbia through delivery of two annual workshops; a short, one or two day, winter information workshop and a longer summer field based technical workshop.
- Support development of silvicultural expertise in students at the post-secondary level through providing of awards, where surplus workshop revenue exists.
Guiding Principles
- The CSC will offer and deliver two annual workshops to accommodate the sharing of siliviculture related information among forest practitioners .
- The CSC will strive to keep workshop fees affordable for all participants.
- The CSC will practice sound financial management by maintaining a $6000.00 balance in its accounts.
- The CSC will invest any surplus workshop revenue in the establishment of awards to support post-secondary students to advance their knowledge in silviculture.
- The CSC will ensure that post-secondary institutions have an appropriate selection process to identify recipients of the CSC award. The CSC will ensure that the selection process gives preference to students concentrating on silviculture, as well as gives consideration to financial need.
- The CSC will follow the annual planning timelines/flow sheet.
Responsibilities of Directors:
Plan, organise and deliver two annual workshops in accordance with the committee’s core purpose. This includes:
- Participate in conference calls, e-mail exchanges to develop workshop agendas
- Identify subject matter experts to present at workshops
- Organize facilities for workshop venues
- Develop and manage workshop budgets in accordance with the guiding principles.
- Manage workshop registration
- Communicate workshop information (e.g., workshop announcements and agendas) to potential workshop participants (i.e., Industry, government, consulting community, members at large) through the CSC website
- Ensure that each workshop presents current and relevant silvicultural information through soliciting input into workshop themes, topics and field locations from members at large.
- Identify a chair and /or co-chairs to lead/ facilitate each workshop
- Follow the requirements of the Societies Act
- When appropriate, select, from list of nominations, a person for CSC Silvicultural of the Year Award, and present this award to the selected nominee
- Demonstrate trust and empowerment by sharing responsibilities, being accountable, and supporting decisions made
- Strive for consensus for the purpose of decision making, however, when consensus is not reached, decisions will be made based on the opinion of the majority.
- Short meetings via conference calls will be scheduled and utilized for purposes of planning workshops in which a scribe will be responsible for meeting minutes.
- Special meetings may be proposed at any time.
- Meeting minutes will be developed to document discussions and decisions.
- The Team Charter will be reviewed annually prior to the winter workshop.
